Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium – The 2024 Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps delivered a thrilling spectacle, culminating in a dramatic twist that saw Lewis Hamilton clinch victory after George Russell’s disqualification.
The race began under sunny skies, with Charles Leclerc starting from pole position. However, it was Hamilton who quickly took the lead on Lap 3, overtaking Leclerc down the Kemmel Straight. The Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Russell dominated the race, with Russell initially crossing the finish line first.
Russell’s one-stop strategy paid off as he held off Hamilton and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri to take the checkered flag. However, post-race inspections revealed that Russell’s car was underweight, leading to his disqualification. This handed the victory to Hamilton, marking his second win in the last three races and his 105th career win.
Oscar Piastri was promoted to second place, while Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third. The disqualification was a significant blow to Russell and the Mercedes team, who acknowledged the error and vowed to learn from it.
The race also saw notable performances from Max Verstappen, who finished fifth, and Lando Norris, who secured sixth place. The Belgian Grand Prix’s dramatic conclusion sets the stage for an exciting second half of the Formula One season as teams and drivers prepare for the next race after the summer break.
