Miami, FL – In a nail-biting finish, the New York Mets secured a 6-4 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night at LoanDepot Park. This win allowed the Mets to split the four-game series against the Marlins, who currently hold the worst record in the National League.
Lindor and McNeil Shine for the Mets
Francisco Lindor was the star of the night, hitting two home runs and driving in crucial runs for the Mets. Jeff McNeil also had a standout performance, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning and contributing three RBIs overall. Lindor’s second homer in the ninth inning ended a streak of 12 1/3 scoreless innings by Marlins relievers.
Pitching Struggles for the Marlins
Marlins starter Yonny Chirinos had a rough outing, allowing five runs on nine hits over five innings. Despite solo home runs from Josh Bell and Bryan De La Cruz, the Marlins couldn’t overcome the Mets’ early lead. Chirinos’ struggles have been a recurring issue, with an 8.62 ERA over his last three outings.
Late-Inning Drama
The Marlins made a valiant effort to rally in the ninth inning. Nick Gordon’s single and Jazz Chisholm Jr.‘s walk loaded the bases, but the Mets’ closer Edwin Díaz managed to escape the jam, securing his 12th save of the season. Marlins manager Skip Schumaker was ejected after the eighth inning for arguing balls and strikes, adding to the night’s drama.
Looking Ahead
With this loss, the Marlins move to 35-65 on the season. They will look to bounce back as they continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, starting Tuesday evening.
