Still with some hang over after the final of Copa America and Euro 2024, Inter Miami invited back the people to the Chase Stadium for an important clash against the Toronto FC. The team led by Tata Martino had sensible absents such as Leo Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez who started on the bench. The responsibility felt on Federico Redondo, Sebastian Gomez and the Ecuadorian Leonardo Campana.
The first half was very slow, both teams created no danger in both ends, the game was controlled in the midfield with occasional attacks from the flanks by speedsters Etienne Jr. and Bernardeschi from the Canadian side. On the side of the Herons, the ball control and creativity were centered in Fede Redondo and Mathias Rojas, the Argentinian and the Paraguayan played very close in the center of the pitch and attempted the best attacking options for Inter Miami.
We had to wait until min 27 to see the first real goal change in the game, Italian star Bernardeschi scaped the mark of Fray and had a great run towards the goal. The great run was followed by a precise pass to the PK spot but the center forward Kerr missed the target, and his shot was of the post.
The first goal of the match came at min 42. Fede Redondo gave a clinical chip thru ball over the Canadian defenders to assist the Paraguayan Gomez who had a clear shot and was able to beat the veteran American goalkeeper Sean Johnson to open the score for the night.
The first half ended in a very low note, but the second half turned out to be a feast of goals and game. Inter Miami got recharged in the half time and returned to the pitch filled with soccer and goals. The second goal didn’t make us wait much on min. 53, a clinical pass from Gressel to Fede Redondo and a great finish from the Argentinian marked the second goal of the game.
After that Miami was a storm of soccer, only 5 minutes later, a great one-touch round of passes that started with Gressel, continued with Gomez and finalized by Fede Redondo, who scored his second of the match and the third goal for the herons.
Uruguayan start Luis Suarez came in on min 60, but he was not having his best night, despite his moves and passes, he was not able to increase the count goal for the night.
The answer from Toronto FC came on min 74, after a pass from Marshall-Rutty, the left-wing Etienne Jr. kicked the ball over the keeper and marked the first goal for the Canadian count and concluded the match 3-1 in favor of American side.
With Miami’s win and Cincinnati’s loss of 1-0 to our next rivals Chicago Fire, the herons took the lead of the of the 2024 MLS shield standings by 2 points.
The next match for Inter Miami will be played here in Chase Stadium, when Tata Martino’s side will have Chicago Fire, who is currently in the 12th spot in the Eastern conference.
