A night with an atypical heat for the Miami spring would see the leader of the Eastern Conference face Thiago Almada's team, Atlanta United, on matchday 16 of the MLS regular season. Atlanta United is out of the play-off places, in 13th place with 14 points. The Georgia team came with the aim of achieving their first victory away from Mercedes Benz Stadium and would see in Chase Stadium a luxury opportunity to achieve it.
The first 20 minutes were of study and analysis by both teams, little action in the areas and a lot of possession in the midfield. Little by little the teams began to release their attacking weapons, on the one hand Leo Messi dropped back to start generating football in the midfield and on the other side the other Argentine 10 Thiago Almada did the same for the Rossoneri.
The match remained with few chances in the opponent's goals until the "cooling break" in the 29th minute. From then on, both teams began to look more determinedly for the opponent's goal, but it was the Miami team that began to show defensive weaknesses, especially on the left side of Jordi Alba, who did not retreat and left many defensive spaces. This was identified by the Rosonerro DT, the former Mexican player Gonzalo Pineda Reyes. The little hand released on that flank the international with Georgia, Saba Lobzhanidze who knew how to take advantage of the space to receive free the filtered balls of Thiago Almada, who dominated the midfield.
It was until the epilogue of the first half, in the 43rd minute, when the visitors would open the can and score the first goal of the match at the feet of the Georgian who would be enabled by Almada, and alone unmarked on the edge of the area he would shoot with his right foot to Drake Callender's right post to achieve the first of the match and give the partial victory to the visitor.
For the second half both teams would return to the field with the same men.
The Atlanta team would start dominating the actions and with the baton of the Argentine 10, Thiago Almada, they began to control the pace of the game. The agent of change for the eleven from South Florida would arrive with the entry at 57 of the Paraguayan, Matías Rojas, the number 7 continues to demonstrate his good level to be taken into account as a starter in Gerardo Martino's team. Between the 59th and 61st, goals would come for both sides, the visiting team would strike first in the 59th minute, with a "Messian" left-footed shot, from the Georgian Lobzhanidze, to double the visitor's lead. But the riposte would come just two minutes later another left-footed shot from Leonel Messi from a pass from Sergio Busquets.
From min 62 onwards the best moments of Leo Messi's team would arrive, good partnerships between Messi, Rojas and Suarez would wake up the pink fans who gathered at the Chase Stadium. But a bucket of cold water would fall on the Miami team when the 73rd minute in a play where the MVP of the night, Thiago Almada would ride with the ball all over the middle of the field and unleash a perfect pass to the left for Walley, who would assist Tiare first, who only had to touch the ball to score the third and final goal of the match to seal the victory of the Rossoneri in Away status.
'Tata' Martino would try to go for the equalizer by bringing on the Ecuadorian Leornado Campana and withdrawing the Finn Robert Taylor. The team will change its tactical module to a 4-3-1-2, placing Messi behind the two South American 9s, Suárez and Campana. The change did not have much effect as the Miami team began to show physical deficiencies and poor setback in the defensive sector. In the 74th minute, the Mexican Gonzalo Pineda Reyes, brought on the Colombian Edwin Mosquera, 22 years old. The former Deportivo Independiente Medellín player was on the field for 16 minutes with 3 shots and 1 found the saving hands of Drake Callender.
The match would end under heavy rain in the stadium and a physically depleted Inter Miami, who were easy prey for the visitors who had several chances to extend the score, but the aim did not accompany them. In this way, Leonel Messi's team loses its second home game and Atlanta United achieves a very important victory in its fight to enter the play-offs of the Eastern Conference of the MLS.
